Maya Bleu Catahoula Leopard Dog Young Female in Wakefield, Rhode Island

My story

Age: ~ 1 year (as of 05/18/21) Weight: 49.6 lbs (as of 07/14/21)   

This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped.

 

Maya Bleu can’t wait to meet you!

She is a sweet, fun loving, and playful girl. We are thinking Maya is a Catahoula Leopard Dog and Bull Dog mix. If you aren’t familiar with Catahoula’s, they are a popular working dog in Louisiana where they are the official state dog.

She loves playing with other dogs and prefers being around dogs and thus think she would do best in a household with an existing family dog or dogs. She currently is living with a foster family that has two cats and she is interested and playful with them. Maya is a friendly and playful girl that loves meeting new people and going new places. Her foster family has a teen who she is even-tempered and playful with but we don’t know if she has lived with small children. She is young active dog that does jump out of excitement and potential adopters with young kids should keep this in mind.

We don’t think Maya has had too much training and would do best with an adopter who will be firm with her in training and is committed to giving her daily exercise and stimulation. She is currently being housetrained, crate trained, and learning to walk on the leash and so far, so good, but does need a little more practice.

An obedience course would be great for Maya and a lot of fun for you; it will help teach her good manners and commands, further socialization with other dogs and people, and will help build that very important bond between a dog and her human. A fenced yard would be ideal so Maya could run and play safely, but if that's not available she'll need lots of leash walks and opportunities for off-leash play in a fenced area.

Medical Note: Maya has an old injury to her left front leg and paw that does not appear to impair her mobility. She has some scars to the upper leg and is missing a toe.
